"Designed for Sitting: an International Exhibition" & "Fifty Chairs: an Invitational Exhibition of World Famous Designers" were recently on view at the Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. The 130 exhibits by emerging artists and 50 masterpieces by great designers reflect leading concepts and values of the international design community today. Statistics indicate that a person would spend 17 years in sittinq throughout his lifetime. It is thus reasonableto spend more energy and creativity on this daily utensil. In fact, sitting is associated with many different spheres of human society, from philosophy to art, from designing to manufacturing. A chair, though simple in shape, can pose great challenges to a designer＇s creativity.That is why many artists and designers are enthusiastic about chair design.
