The features of current SDH network management (SMN) architecture and CORBA technology analyzed and presented a CORBA based distributed SDH network management architecture. The engine concept is introduced which inherits and develops SMN's manager agent concept and multi tiered management mechanism in the architecture. The extensive services are also provided which extend the CORBA common object services to support group oriented distributed applications. With the support of these services, the engines can be grouped to accomplish SMN's management functions. The architecture includes a gateway component to facilitate the mediation between them to interconnect with the existing SMN system adopting CMIP or SNMP protocol.
