The controversial"Burqa Ban"in France takes effect on April 11, which means face veils are outlawed virtually anywhere outside women's homes, except when they are worshipping in a religious place or travelling as a passenger in a privater car. In fact, the law has attracted great attention from around the world and inspired heated debate over the issue of Islam. Why can a small veil provoke strong reactions and why is it attached great importance in the controversy? What kind of role does woman' s body covered by the veil play in the issue? What' s the relationship among veil, body and Islam from the aspect of ethnology research? This paper intends to answer these questions and advances that woman' s body can not only express the adherence to their ethnic culture and religion, but it is also modeled as a form of cultural resistance which helps to retain religious values and signals unobservable behaviour to one' s community.
