The Survey of the Settlement Remains in the Lake Dian Area,Yunnan Province in 2008

经国家文物局批准,云南省文物考古研究所与美国密歇根大学人类学系签订为期3年的合作协议,进行＂滇池区域史前聚落形态考古调查＂项目,目的是通过开展全面的区域系统调查,寻找并确认与石寨山文化（亦称滇文化,时代约从春秋时期至西汉末期）有关的遗址和聚落[1],

In 2008, archaeological field survey was conducted to the southeast of the Lake Dian area, covering areas of 64 sq kin. This is the first application of systematic regional survey method in Yunnan. This survey discovered 43 sites, 25 of which belonged to the Bronze Age, nine crossed the Bronze Age through the Eastern Han Dynasty, Three-Kingdoms Period and Western Jin Dynasty, five belonged to the Han Dynasty and the rest four were cemeteries. The analyses based on the survey results showed that the alluvial plain around the Lake Dian was very possibly the central region for the bronze cultures of the Lake Dian area to emerge and develop; the areas with densely distributed sites of the Han Dynasty were close to the seat of Yizhou Prefecture, which was the political center of this area at that time. This survey laid foundation for the archaeological researches on the settlement patterns in the Lake Dian area.
