汉字城市的语源揭示了"城"的本质属性:(定居者所属的)大地(土)的自我实现(成)。"城"的这一属性源自维柯的林间隙地原型,因而"城"的原型反映了人类进化、进步的历史及其文脉所在。其中"城"的声符字"成"(从丁从戊的结构)所含的丁火象征着城市圣火,标志着城市的灵魂;而"成"所含的大戊是城市整合力的象征。"成"之两大因素为现代城市发展提供原型思路。

The language source of the Chinese word city（＂Cheng＂） reveals the essential attribute of ＂Cheng＂： the self-realization of earth（soil） which belongs to the settlers.This essential attribute of ＂Cheng＂ derives from the ＂Lucus Archetype＂ of Vico,so the Archetype of ＂cheng＂ shows the human evolution,the progressive history and its context.Among them,＂cheng＂（combination with ding and wu）,the phonetic sign of ＂Cheng＂,contains the ＂ding＂（fire） which symbolizes urban sacred flame and marks the soul of the city.And the ＂wu＂（axe） that ＂cheng＂ contained is the symbol of urban integrated force.The two factors of ＂cheng＂ provide the Archetype thought of modern urban development.
