张爱玲在她的传奇中以不同于时代的流行话语塑造女性人物形象。她站在女性生存第一要务的角度,对女性生存境遇进行了理性的思考。她又解构传统女神神话,对其进行生命本真形态还原,肯定女性情欲的合理性。她虽直言女性情欲,但又能于生存苍凉的大背景中让人感觉出身体美学浪漫叙事的余味与情蕴,使爱显得真实而富于质感。在虚无的底色中,张爱玲笔下的女性又流露出对生命背后"惘惘的威胁"的敬畏,表现出一种典型的现代都市情绪。这些都使她的女性观带有强烈的现代性。
