:The paper has elaborated five main points. The first one reviewed 50 years of the development of forestry science and technology since the founding of the Republic, which is divided by 4 stages. The second one narrated some high level scientific research findings, such as 2 special awards and 5 first grade awards for State Scientific and Technological Promotion, and elaborated scientific research levels in the fields of forest e-cology and environment, forest resource cultivation, forest protection, forest resource management, forest resource utilization and soft forest-related sciences. The third one referred that the transformation of scientific research findings has produced good economic benefits, and that finding transformation models, technical development benefits, operating mechanism of 'incorporating science and technology, finance, planning and production' to promote finding transformation and 'Richening the Mountain' plan have promoted the development of forestry science and technology. The fourth one drawn six experiences in the areas of facing key fields, going right to the front line around key production factors, making vigorous efforts of finding transformation , energetically fostering scientific talents, promoting international cooperation, and enhancing scientific management. And finally, the fifth one put forward some new breakthroughs to be achieved in the fields of scientific and technological institutional reform, new forestry scientific and technological revolution, establishment of technical innovation system and state land ecological safety system in order to move towards the knowledge economy in 21st century.
