This paper outlines the historical process of the formation and development of Deng Xiaoping＇s thought on overseas Chinese affairs,the basic characteristics and scientific significance of Deng Xiaoping＇s thought on overseas Chinese affairs,and the relation between Deng Xiaoping＇s thought on overseas Chinese affairs and the theory of overseas Chinese affairs with Chinese socialist characteristics.The historical process of the formation and development of Deng Xiaoping＇s thought on overseas Chinese affairs can be divided into two phases,which turning point is the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee.Deng Xiaoping＇s thought on overseas Chinese affairs is pioneering and is advancing with the times and can be summarized scientifically as several parts,such as overseas relations,overseas Chinese patriotism,overseas Chinese significant contribution,overseas Chinese rights protection,the unique opportunity,and unity and revitalization.With succeeding to the thought on overseas Chinese affairs of the first CPC leadership with Mao its leader,Deng formed his thought on overseas Chinese affairs with Chinese socialist characteristics.Deng Xiaoping＇s thought on overseas Chinese affairs is an important part of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the theoretical basis and guideline for China＇s overseas Chinese affairs after the reform and opening up.
