Doris Lessing,a committed writer believing in the social function of literature,has enjoyed a high esteem for her frank and objective exposition of the living conditions and dilemma of marginal men.This paper,with specific references to Lessing＇s representative works,examines the predicament of various types of marginal men： the plight of both black and white people in colonized Africa,deformed kids＇ thirst for social and family love,loss of physical and emotional care for the aged.Lessing＇s depiction of marginal men is one indicator of her sensitivity to the living situation of modern people.
