Margaret Drabble's The Waterfall, marked by its language game, shifts of the third-and-first-person narration; intextuality and open-ending demonstrates the charm of metafiction: to cultivate a new kind of critical reader, who earns an advantageous distance for philosophical thinking as a result of the baring of the skills in the narration.
