A Comparative Philosophic View on Chinglish Writing

从"逻辑"和"易"的词源分析出发,说明西方形式逻辑三大定律:同一律、排中律和不矛盾律如何与中式辩证思维三大定律:变化律、矛盾律、关系律互相冲突。这两套三大思维定律南辕北辙,双方矛盾在语法规则、词汇、句法、语篇各个层面都有体现,中式英文写作顽疾由此产生。解决中式英语写作难题,必须在写作训练中大力加强英汉对比意识和逻辑思维能力。

An etymological analysis of the word logic and the Chinese word yi reveals how the fundamentals in formal logic, i.e. Law of Identity, Law of Excluded Middle and Law of Non-contradiction, run counter to those in the Chinese dialectical thought, i.e. The Principle of Change, The Principle of Contradiction, and The Principle of Relationship. The incongruity between the two sets, as demonstrated by the different grammar rules on lexical, syntactical and textual levels in the English and Chinese languages, has caused the chronic disease of Chinglish writing. The ultimate cure is to improve the ability to think logically through comparisons of the two languages.
