Margaret Atwood started her writing career in the 1960s-around the same time when Roland Barthes published his ＂The Death of the Author＂. As a basic understanding of the relationship between the author, reader and text, the death of the author permeates through Atwood＇s writing. Atwood＇s position is contradictory. On the one hand, she hopes to remove the restriction of the writer so that the work may have a universal significance; on the other hand, she is not willing to let her unique voice as ＂a Canadian woman＂ drowned in the sea of anonymous texts.
