In his novel The Mother,Maxim Gorki constructs a brand-new artistic world where individuals are ＂predestinedly and inextricably＂ bound with social history.Nevertheless,this new type of ＂predestined,inevitable＂ connection is shaped in an interactive manner.On the one hand,individuals ought to reconcile their self-development with the leading trend of historical development and at the same time summon the courage and aptitude to foster the advancement of social history.On the other,individuals gain in return their self-worth by committing themselves to such sociohistoric developments.Therefore,the existing ＂predestined,inevitable＂ connection is the foundation for both individual and sociohistoric developments.In this article,the author studies the artistic thinkings and qualities embedded in Gorki＇s The Mother from a unique artistic perspective as a way to explore the groundbreaking significance of Gorki＇s works in world literature.
