The study of the development of teacher autonomy is derived from the idea of learner autonomy. This article begins with the exploration into the meaning of learner autonomy so as to expound the necessity of the development of teacher autonomy, drawing the attention of college English teachers＇ to the concept of autonomy in their professional development to the end that feasible approaches to the development of college English teacher autonomy are explored.
