党的十七大提出了要"建设全民学习、终身学习的学习型社会"的战略任务,广州市委、市政府在国民经济和社会发展十一五规划中也提出"努力建设学习型城市"的发展目标。学习型社会是指以学习者为中心,以终身教育体系和学习型组织为基础,以保障和实现满足社会全体成员各种学习需求,促进人的全面发展和获得社会自身可持续发展的社会。具有系统网络和远程教育优势的广播电视大学在终身教育体系构建和学习型社会建设中大有作为,广州电大通过明确办学与服务的功能定位、推进数字化学习港建设、开展职工素质教育、拓展数字化社区教育、形成学历与非学历教育相互沟通机制、加强学习型城市建设理论研究等为广州学习型城市建设做出了积极贡献。

Learning society refers to the one that is centered on learners,and based on lifelong educational system and learning organizations,serving the ends of protecting and meeting needs of all the members,enhancing their personal growth,thus achieving its own sustainable development.A strategic mission of building a lifelong society involving all the people was called out in the Seventeenth Congress of Chinese Communist Party,and such is one of the objectives outlined by Guangzhou Municipal government in its Eleven Fifth National and Social Development Platform.With its advantageous systematic network and distance education,the Radio and Television University shall play a bigger role in the construction of learning society.In this regard,Guangzhou Open University is especially prominent in the following aspects: 1) school concept;2) digitalized learning port;3) in-service staff quality education;4) digitalized community education;5) dual systems of diploma and non-diploma education;6) theoretical research;etc.
