Yuan Longping:Father of Hybrid Rice

他有着中国人心目中理想的科学家形象，朴实、自然、平凡，看上去似乎与平常人没有什么与众不同，却能解决中国13亿人的吃饭问题。他就是——

He looks like an ordinary man, typically the image of a scientist as imagined by the Chinese people. However, it is he who puts an end to hunger in China and who greatly increases the rice production in the developing countries. He is Yuan Longping. As an expert in hybrid rice breeding, Yuan Longping is called "Father of Hybrid Rice" in China and is honored as a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences, USA. He was conferred the 2011 Mahathir Science Award for the great contribution he made. Yet Yuan prefers to be called the most hardworking "peasant". Yuan’s dream came true when the "Super Rice" yielded 900 kilograms each acre in September 2011, which also marked that China still takes the leading position in the hybrid rice breeding technology. Yuan said that he would devote himself to the goal of producing 1000 kilograms each acre in 10 years.
