The current guides and references of ISO, NACE, FROSIO and SSPC about surface cleanliness have been discussed. By contrast of the range of standards, the precise of definition and the detail of reference photographs, SSPC is regarded as comprehensive, concise, clear and easy to determine the rust grade. It is recommended that SSPC should be considered in PSPC.
