A Corpus-based Study on Linguistic Features of Translated Political Texts

摘要本文基于可比语料库和平行语料库对政论文英译语言特征进行实证描述。研究结果显示:1)与原创政论文相比,英译政论文词汇密度高、平均词长较长、平均句长较长,不支持简化假设;2)译文连词超用、代词少用,呈明晰化特征;3)译文使用更多名词化结构和被动句,支持范化假设。最后指出,不同的翻译策略组合会导致翻译普遍性特征呈现不同的显现度。 Based on corpora, this article investigates the potential lexical and syntactical features of translated political texts （TPT）, measuring translation universals. The results reveal that 1） in contrast with non-translated political texts, TPT has a longer average word length, a higher lexical density and a longer average sentence length, thus casting doubt on simplification; 2） TPT makes more frequent use of conjunctions and less frequent use of pronouns, demonstrating a tendency for explicitation; and 3） TPT is characterized by more nominalization structures and more passive sentences, lending support to normalization. Finally, it points out that various combinations of translation strategies may lead to different visibility levels of translation universals.
