Although you can take the Shenzhen number 3 subway line to the Dafen Station,actually finding the village of Dafen.known as the 'number one village for oil paintings in China',is actually more difficult that I seems;the villages short and stout buildings tend to get submerged among the numerous tall apartment complexes that surrounds the area. Throughout the hotel lobbies and recently bought homes of Europe and even America hang oil paintings that originated from this small village in China,in fact Dafen oil paintings account for 60%of the replicated oil paintings in the world. While other art districts throughout the world are constantly fighting against the invasion of commercialism,Dafen has embraced it from the beginning.However,with the arrival of the 2008 financial crisis the village's oil painting export business plummeted severely and the artists within the community began attempts to move into the 'original artwork' marketplace. The people here believe that just how commercial power allowed the originally tiny fishing village of Shenzhen to grow into the huge modern city it now is,they too can use the power of commerce to make Dafen village a world famous cultural industry center.
