Verschueren的顺应论为语用学的研究提供了一个新的角度和一种综观的思想。委婉语是英语的重要组成部分,是常见的修辞手段之一,也是英语重要的研究范围之一。到目前为止,对于委婉语的研究多数停留在语义学的角度。鉴于此,在介绍顺应论主要内容的同时应用这一理论对委婉语现象在交际语境中进行分析研究,以期推动英语委婉语研究的深入发展。

The theory of linguistic adaptation by Versehuem presents a new pragmatic perspective for pragmatic research. Euphe- mism is one of the most significant components of English, and a eommon figure of speech. Up to now, many researches on euphemism are mostly focused on the semantics. The paper eoneentrates on the study of euphemism in the communication context with the theory of adaptation in order to promote the further development of English euphemism research.
