有一次，老鼠们召开了一次会议，商讨如何躲避他们的敌人——猫。他们好歹应当找出一种办法来掌握猫的动向，这样，他们才来得及在猫到来之前撒腿而逃。确实是该做点儿什么来改变局面了，他们长久地生活在猫的利爪的阴影下，恐惧令他们几乎不论白天黑夜，都不敢跑出洞来活动了。
The Mice once called a meeting to decide on a plan to free themselves of their enemy, the Cat. At least they wished to find some way of knowing when eat was coming, so they might have time to run away. Indeed, something had to be done, for they lived in such constant fear of cat claws that they hardly dared stir from their dens by night or day.
