Salinger＇ s The Catcher in the Rye teaches us a lesson that no matter how rich the material life is, the existence mode without meaning and self-dignity is no less than mental death. The advancement of civilization is all-round and technological and material civilization is not the whole civilization, which must contain institutional and mental civilization and its advancement.
