An excerpt of The Princess, a verse written by Alfred Tennyson, sketches a male chauvinist. Since the end of the 20th century the excerpt has been translated into Chinese, for both traditional andience and the netizens. By now there have appeared dozens of Chinese versions. This paper argues that the contemporary Chinese society has shaped a translation space for the excerpt, which is characterized by diversity and heterogeneity and interaction with other human spaces. In this space, the source text has been and will be reinterpreted many times. And then the paper, by interpreting the Chinese versions in the space, reveals how translation' s power influence the society and vice versa, and shows the contest for the space among the author, translators, readership and critics. Moreover, translation studies is also involved in the space.
