摘要
上世纪80年代以来,以英语出版的中国城市史著作主要都聚焦近代上海,但在区域研究以及中国现代性是否等同上海经验的反思下,天津作为京畿门户在政治经济文化方面的重要性与特殊性,也逐渐受到英美学界中国城市史研究者的关注。本文综述近30年来英美学者研究近代天津城市的论著,将之与中国城市史理论研究的主要议题相比较,从政治、经济、文化与社会等面相来综合评析这些海外天津研究,以此探究天津研究在城市史领域的新突破,进而更好地了解天津在近代中国的历史角色。
This paper summarized the works of British and US scholars about Tianjin city in the past 3 decades and analyzed these overseas researches about Tianjin from such aspects as politics, economy, culture and society. By probing into the new breakthroughs of Tianjin researches in the field of Urban History, we can get a better understanding about the historical role of Tianjin.
