Objective To develop an acute psychological stress reaction questionnaire (APSRQ-A), and assess its reliability and validity. Methods Based upon previous literature and experimental research, a preliminary questionnaire to measure armymen acute psychological stress reaction was compiled. APSRQ-A was administered to 683 new recruits, who had just experienced a stress life event to perform a mission simulated antiterrorism, to test its validity and reliability. One hundred and five recruits were re-tested again with APSRQ-A for reliability after 5 weeks. Results APSRQ-A had good reliability (re-test reliability 0. 891, Cronbach a 0. 903). The factor model ( emotion, cognition, behavior, and com- bat 4 factors) produced by exploratory factor analysis was consistent with hypothesized structure, and the results of confir- matory factor analysis suggested a good fit between the sample data and hypothesized structure. Three APSRQ-A subscales scores were significantly correlated with psychasthenia (Pt), and MAS of Minnesota muhiphasic personality inventory (MMPI) (r = -0. 169 - -0. 359, P 〈 0.05 or P 〈 0.01 ) ;APSRQ-A total score were significantly correlated with Pt, MAS and schizophrenia (Sc) of MMPI (r = - 0. 388, - 0. 349, - 0.314; P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusions APSRQ-A has good reliability and validity, and may be used in assessing acute psychological stress reaction for armymen.
