Beyond the Cultural Universalism and Cultural Relativism——An Analysis on LinYutang's Cultural Ideological Changes

林语堂的文化思想经历了否定中国文化,"全盘西化"、对中国传统文化的糟粕和精华进行批判和倡导并重以及提倡"中西融合"三个发展阶段,从哲学的观点来看,他的文化思想体现了从文化普遍主义发展到文化相对主义并最后超越这二者的文化思想变化轨迹。

LinYutang＇ s cultural Ideological changes has gone through the following stages： firstly he advocated following suit completely as the western cultures and neglected the merits of the Chinese culture, then he promoted the merits of the Chinese culture in spite of the criticism of the bad things, finally he put forward the theory of integration of Chinese and western cultures. These stages show his ideological changes trace from cultural universalism to cultural relativism and at last surpassing both of them.
