A Study on the Words "hang chu" in A Record of Buddhist Religion as Practised in India and the Malaya Archipelago

义净《南海寄归内法传》中"行初"指"一行座位的开头"。"初"可以指称空间的开头。

This paper is mainly concerned with the varialectio and how to punctuate as well as the meanings of the word ＂hang chu＂ in Yi Jing＇s writing A Record of Buddhist Religion as Practised in India and the Malaya Archipelago. By exploring why the word ＂chu＂ is always used to refer to the beginning of time, which it now means the beginning of space, we believe that the meaning of the word ＂hang chu＂ should be ＂the beginning of a line＂.
