“七五”期间高等教育教材建设成绩显著,种类明显增加,质量有所提高,已初步形成高等教育教材建设管理体制。但教材质量仍有待提高,思想性与科学性结合不够,相当多的自编教材质量不高。“八五”期间应继续加强管理,着重全面提高质量,适当发展品种,力争系列配套,为初步建立具有中国特色的高等教育教材体系奠定坚实基础。

A notable success has been achieved in the development of textbooks for higher education during the years of the Seventh Five-Year Plan.They have been increased in variety,improved in quality.An administrative system for the development of textbooks for higher education has begun to take shape.The textbooks available,however,need further improvement; there is no satisfactory combination of their ideological level and scientific spirit.A quite few selfcompiled teaching materials are inferior in quality. During the period of the Eighth Five-Year Plan the administration is to be further strengthened;importance be attached to overall improvement in qua- lity;varities are to be properly increased,so as to lay a solid foundation in establishing an initiative textbook system for higher education with Chi- nese characteristics.
