Objective To explore the relationship of serum ferritin level with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its related risk factors in physical examination subjects. Methods A total of 222 cases of NAFLD and 196 health controls received abdominal ultrasound examination and were detected the levels of body mass index, blood pressure, liver function, fasting plasma glucose, serum uric acid and serum ferritin. The relationship between the above indexes and serum ferritin was analaysed. Results The body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure in males, fasting plasma glucose, serum uric acid, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, Y-glutamyl transpeptidase and serum ferritin were significantly higher in NAFLD group than those in control group(P〈0.05). The high density lipoprotein-cholesterol level was lower in NAFLD group than that in control group(P〈 0.05). Correlation analysis showed y-glutamyl transpeptidase, diastolic blood pressure, serum uric acid, fasting plasma glucose were positively correlated with the levels of serum ferritin (P〈 0.05). Conclusion Increased serum ferritin is one of the risk factors for NAFLD.
