XML is a data oriented markup language, which has a rigorous data structure, is easy to use. It has become the standard of data exchange. This paper describes the characteristics of the XML standard and application fields. Then from the XML encryption, XML digital signature, and XML public key management technology, the safety of the XML technology is discussed. The XML data exchange platform structure is set up. Based on this, this paper gives the application of the XML safety technolog）＂ in stone material information retrieval system, the system needs analysis and the design of function module.
