EFL Public Speakers' Identity Construct: A Study Based on Appraisal System

摘要 本研究以2007—2009年三年中"CCTV杯"英语演讲大赛决赛阶段的45篇命题演讲为语料,探讨参赛选手对评价资源的选择如何促成他们在比赛中的二重身份构建:竞技者和劝说者。研究结果表明:裁决资源的前景化能帮助选手在内容层面实现影响力,迎合评委的评判标准,促成竞技者身份的构建;态度资源总体上的积极倾向,能够满足包括评委在内的观众的审美需求和情感需求,达成人际意义,实现劝说者身份构建;人称代词的有效运用达成了竞技者的舞台效果,也成为了劝说者的诉诸手段。 Based on a corpus of 45 final round prepared speeches from three years of CCTV Cup English Speaking Contest(2007-2009),this study analyses how contestants' choice of appraisal resources help realize their dual identity: as a contestant and as a persuader.Results show that the foregrounding of judgment resources,by realizing speakers' impact in their content,can help the speakers cater to judges' criteria and establish their identity as contestants.Results also show that the overall positive tendency in speakers' choice of attitude resources can help satisfy the aesthetic and emotional needs of the audience so as to establish their identity as persuaders.The effective use of personal pronouns not only helps speakers present their contestants' image on the stage but also serves as a means of appeal in their persuasion.
