Languages or any variants of a certain language are called codes in sociolinguistics. Speakers tend to apply different codes into their daily communications. When communicating with standard Chinese, they sometimes pop out their different dialects, English or some other foreign languages in the middle of their sentences for certain reasons. This is the phenomenon this paper is going to study, called code-switching. This phenomenon is the product of language contacts and inter- cultural communications, which has certain social significance. This paper first of all briefly gives the definition of code-switching and concludes the classifications of code-switching made by some sociolinguists. Then it continues to describe the detailed phenomena of codeswitching in college students by giving some examples, as well as analyzes the reasons causing these phenomena.
