The characters in White Noise by the American post-modern writer, Don DeLillo, are one-dimensional. Influenced by post-modern American media culture, they have lost autonomous individuals' voices and thoughts and are culturally shaped by the social system. Economically, the consumerism in the post-modern American society deprives them of their spiritual dimensions and makes them materialized. From the perspective of ethics and value, the post-modern knowledge, characterized by scientific and technological rationality, moulds them into specialists without the humanitarian spirit, which inevitably results in the loss of ethical values and leads to violence
