He obtained his B,S. in Materials Science ＆ Engineering （majoring in Foundry） from Northwestern Polytechnical University, China, in 1982. He then continued to study and perform research at Northwestern Polytechnical University under the supervision of Prof. Zhou Yaohe, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his M.S, and Ph.D. in 1984 and 1989, respectively. In 1989, Dr. Huang completed a summer training program at the International Space University （French Campus）. He was promoted to a full professorship in 1991.
