“九合诸候”之“九”义考

Exposition of the Word "Jiu" in "Jiu He Zhu Hou"

历来学者对"九合诸侯"中"九"的词义有多种不同的理解,有"实数"说、"虚数"说、"聚合"说、"第九次"说,亦有认为表"虚数"和"聚合"兼可等。文章利用古文字形的相关研究成果,指出"九"在古代有"聚合"义,并通过对"九合诸侯"的"异文"等材料的辨析,认为其中的"九"是"聚合"义。

There are many different kinds of explanations for the word ＂jiu（九）＂ in the phrase of ＂jiu he zhu hou（ 九合诸侯） ＂ ：real number, imaginary number, polymerization, ninth, and imaginary number or polymerization. Related resear- ches of the font of ancient characters were used in this paper to point out that ＂jiu（九） ＂ had the meaning of polymerization in ancient time, and that the meaning of ＂jiu（九）＂ should be polymerization in the phrase of ＂flu he zhu hou （九合诸侯 ） ＂through the materials of ＂yi wen（异文） ＂, etc. in this paper.
