Objective To observe the effect of Huazhuo Jiedu Qingyou Recipe (HJQR), which is based on the theory of pathogenesis of turbid toxicity, on the clinical symptoms, gastroscopic features and Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection rate in patients with Helicobacter pylori associated gastritis (HPAG), and to search effective prescription for HPAG. Methods Sixtyfour HPAG patients were equally randomized into two groups. The treatment group was treated with oral use of modified HJQR ( mainly composed of Herba Taraxaci, Herba Hedyotis Diffusae, Herba Portulacae Grandiflorae, Rhizoma Coptidis, Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus, Radix Paeoniae AIba, Radix Aucklandiae, Rhizoma Corydahs, Radix Notoginseng, and Radix Glycyrrhizae). The control group was given trigeminy regimen which consisted of Rabeprazole capsules, Amoxicillin capsules and Metronidazole tablets. The general state, gastroscopic features and HP eradiation rate were observed before and after treatment. Results The improvement of symptoms and gastroscopic features in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group (P 〈 0. 05), but the difference of HP eradiation rate was insignificant ( P 〉 0.05 ), which indicated that the effect on HP infection was similar in the two groups. Conclusion Modified HJOR is effective for the treatment of HPAG. and is worth of further research.
