An Applicativeconstructionbased Analysis of the Syntax and Semantics of the Existential Construction Containing ＂V-le＂ and the UCPP in Chinese

一、《国家通用语言文字法》颁布实施10周年及自治区城市语言文字工作评估开展10周年以来的工作回顾2000年10月《国家通用语言文字法》正式颁布，标志着我国语言文字事业走上了法制化的轨道，进入依法行政、依法管理的新阶段，具有重要里程碑意义。2003年1月1日，自治区颁布实施新修订的《自治区语言文字工作条例》。

Traditional grammars seek to account for the linearity alignment of ＂Vle＂existential constructions and UCPP, but leaves unexplained their different hierachical structures. The reanalysis, on the basis of High- and Low-applicative theory, of the two constructions in question reveals not only the different semantic associations be tween the initial nouns and verbs, but the internal differences in terms of syntactic hierarchy： morpheme＂le＂ in troduces LOCATIVE argument, thereby forming Highapplicative constructions, and this is the case of ＂Vle＂ex istential construction, whereas morpheme ＂le＂introduces POSSESSOR argument, thereby forming Lowapplicative constructions, and this is the case of UCPP. The differences concerning the internal hierarchy of the two construc tions are thus accounted for.
