在不同的历史时期,图书馆的功能有所不同。网络环境为图书馆的发展提供了机遇,同时也使它面临着大众传媒的挑战。图书馆要想生存和发展,必须对自己的功能进行重新定位,要突出其公益性、保证所提供信息的真实性,把图书馆打造成环境优美的文化场所,提高图书馆的核心竞争力。

Libraries played different roles and functions in different historical times and periods.Nowadays,the network environment has offered a great opportunity for the development of libraries,at the same time it has also posed a great challenge to library from the mass media.Hence for the sake of survival and development,libraries should relocate their own functions in a new way,namely,to heighten the public welfare of libraries,to ensure the authenticity of the information provided,and to make the library a culture place with excellent surroundings.Only in this way can we strengthen the core competitiveness of libraries.
