The Road is a post-apocalyptic novel by contemporary American writer Cormac McCarthy. It shows the end of civilization on the earth, arousing people's great attention to the real western world.Based on textual analysis, this paper intends to show firstly human's spiritual crisis with people's knowledge of doomsday.Secondly American postmodern theorist Fredric Jameson's view of the nature of science fiction as 'here-and-now' helps our reflection on the cruel reality when we go through the dying world in the novel. And finally French philosopher Jacque Derrida's concept of friendship is argued to be applied in the novel as the possible hope in the coming end of the world.
