The Tongkuangyu copper deposit in Zhongtiao Mountain is a large size copper deposit in Precambrian metamorphic rocks, whose genesis and other relevant problems have drawn much attention of geologists both in China and abroad. Occurring in Tongkuangyu Formation of Lower Proterozoic Jiangxian Group, the Tongkuangyu copper deposit is related to altered potash volcanic complex. The No.4 and No.5 orebodies are the largest orebodies, the mineralizations are dominated by veinlet dissemination type, the associated element are Mo, Au, Ag etc., and the wall rock alterations are quartz sericitization of the early stage and albitization of the late stage. In addition to common features of porphyry copper deposits, the ore deposit is characterized by stratabound nature of ore bearing rocks, alterations and mineralizations as well as stratoid zoning of metallic mineralizations. The ore deposit is mainly of volcanogene pneumato hydatogenic mineralization reformed by late stage metamorphism. The demonstrated copper metallic reserves amount to 2 8 million tons. According to an analysis of metallogenic and ore prospecting conditions, it is predicted that there are additional 2 million tons of copper reserves and 280 million tons of ore reserves in the depth. Deep exploration carried out now reveals encouraging ore prospecting vista, i.e., the ore deposit has the potential of becoming a superlarge copper deposit with copper reserves higher than 5 million tons.
