The Theoretical Foundation for Metropolitan Imagination of the Contemporary Chinese Mass Culture

大众文化作为以现代都市为基点的现代文化的重要部分,是与现代都市相伴生的一种文化现象,大众文化与都市的发展之间存在着不小的错位与落差。当代中国的大众文化更多是在向西方的都市化进程看齐。还原到本土城市的现实语境下,这种视角势必带有某种想象性的成分。80年代繁盛一时的哲学热,开阔了国人的视野,也引发了国人对个体生存意义与价值的探讨追问,成为了他们寻求都市梦的理论基础。

As an important part of the modem culture in modem metropolitan, mass culture is a kind of cul- tural phenomenon going along with the modem metropolitan. However, there exists a huge gap and difference be- tween the development of mass culture and that of modem metropolitan. The contemporary Chinese mass culture is assimilating itself more or less towards the development of western metropolitans. Returning to the local cir- cumstance, this visual angle will certainly involve some imaginative components. The prosperous chase after phi- losophy in the 1980s expanded the views of the Chinese people, and attracted them to explore and understand the meaning and value of the individual beings, which became the theatrical base on which they were pursuing their urban dream.
