The republican political philosophy of Philip Pettit has become popular among scholars after the Cold War.It has also attracted the attention of politicians like Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero.This popularity is mainly due to the affinity between republicanism and socialism,especially on the issues of state intervention.The neo-republicanism should be seen as an alternative ideology for left-wing intellectuals in an age in which socialism has lost much of its credit.Nevertheless,the thousands years old republicanism has its own distinctive characteristics,and they are reflected by Pettit＇s disagreement with socialists on the issues of market,private property and democracy.
