Most bronze inscriptions of the Yinxu period of the Shaug Dynasty are brief. Among them, one recurring type is "Ya-X" ( 亚某 ) or "Qin-X" (寝某). Previous studies often treated such inscriptions as "compound lineage emblerns" (复合族徽). Based on the author's research of inscnribed bronzes made for "Gao" (告), this paper suggests an alternative explanation, that some of the previously believed compound lineage emblems could indicate the personal name and official title of the vessel's sponsors.
