A pragmatic study of the code switching with adaptation

基于维索尔伦的顺应理论,通过对《围城》中语码转换的分析得出,语码转换是交际者的语言选择与交际语境相互顺应的结果。语码转换作为一种语用策略,可以传递语言本身以外的许多语用信息。由于交际语境和顺应过程的动态性,语码转换的语用效果并非总能与说话人的预期愿望一致,因此具有不确定性。

This study is based on the adaptation by Veschueren, and the analysis of code switching inFortress Besieged by Qian Zhongshu. It argues that the code-switching is outcome of the linguistic choices by interlocutors in adaptation to contexts. Code-switching expresses pragmatic messages. Due to the dy- namic context and adaptation process, it is of uncertainty.
