The paper summarizes in detail the status of research and application of Geographic Information System （GIS） in Chinese marine fishery. Pacific Saury and squid jigging are the main subjects,of which the GIS is applied in the pelagic fishery. The principal application of GIS is in the distribution of resources,the relationships between catch and fishing ground environment,fishing condition forecast,plotting fishery map and so on. Marine Fishery GIS presence in offshore fishery is witnessed mostly in associated studies and investigations in the East China Sea,which includes analyzing the characteristics of distribution and drift of resources, the variation trend of environmental factors such as temperature and food organisms in fishing ground,the relationship between catch of several species fish and sea conditions,fishing condition forecast and so forth. In addition to fish resources and fishing ground,Marine Fishery GIS is also applied to tracking fishing vessels, discriminating the delinquent behavior in the process of fishing and constructing fishing port. As Marine Fishery GIS is developing,Chinese scholars focus on the research and improvement of this technology.
