试析沙博理的文化翻译观--以《我的父亲邓小平》英译本为例

Sidney Shapiro's Cultural View on Translation:A Case Study of Deng Xiaoping and the Cultural Revolution

沙博理以其50余年的翻译生涯和约千万字的汉英翻译成就在中国当代翻译史上占有特殊地位。他于耄耋之年翻译了记录十年"文革"历史并承载着中国当代思想史的长篇传记《我的父亲邓小平》。本文拟分析该译本的文化翻译策略和方法,借以探讨沙博理的文化身份和文化翻译观,指出该译本体现了沙博理翻译理念和文化感知的成熟。

Sidney Shapiro plays a special role in the translation history of contemporary China,with about 10 million translated English words in his translation career for over 50 years.In his late years,Shapiro translated Deng Xiaoping and the Cultural Revolution——a Daughter Recalls the Critical Years,a long biography recording the ＂Cultural Revolution＂ and reflecting the intellectual history of contemporary China.Based on the English version,the paper analyzes Shapiro＇s cultural translation strategies,explores his cultural identity as well as his cultural view on translation,and concludes that Shapiro＇s translation ideas and cultural perception have been mature enough.
