Manchu Liberal and Modernization in the Late of Qing Dynasty:in the Center of Duane Fang

端方是清末满族权贵中较为开明的封疆大吏,一生历仕南北数省督抚等要职,在政坛显赫一时。端方在晚清现代化过程中起到了很大的作用,推动了清政府的现代化决策,促动了清政府在政治、经济、教育、民族和外交等方面的现代化改革。端方在湖北、湖南、江苏等地区的区域现代化建设方面做出了较显著的成绩。

Duane Fang was more open-minded man of Manchu as a local official in the late of Qing Dynasty in his life. He was a famous official, for he played an important role in the process of modernization in last years of Qing dynasty, promoted the decision-making of government, and pushed forward aspects of modernization and reform such as politics, economy, education, national and diplomatic. Duane Fang had made significant achievements through practicing by himself in regional modernization in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and etc.
