摘要
Lightfoot是研究历史句法学的语言学家中应用生成语法的典型代表。他把句法演变理解成语法逐渐复杂化后的突发巨变。本文梳理Lightfoot关于句法学演变的观点,从扩展标准理论的原则与参数两个方面评介其思想,从而阐明句法演变不可能突发巨变。
Lightfoot is a typical linguist who uses the theory of generative grammar in historical syntactic studies. Lightfoot’s scenario for the explanation of syntactic changes is that grammatical complexity builds up gradually in a language until a sudden catastro-phic restructuring of the grammar takes place. This paper presents the view of Lightfoot on syntactic changes from the Extended Standard Theory to the Principles-and-Parameters approach in order to illustrate that syntactic changes could not happen overnight.
