The nail-fold microcirculation was examined on 129 patients with para-
plegia as a result of the Tangshan and Fengnan earthquake 12 years ago. The results re-
vealed severe disturbance on nail-fold microcirculation in these patients, manifesthed by
increased diameter length and shortened of input and output loops, by the increase of the
number of deformity loop and the decrease of blood velocity. It shows that alleviating mic-
rocirculatory disturbance is closely related with the restoration of the function of paralytic
limbs, spinal cord and viscera. Therefore, it would be very help-ful and important to a
satisfactory convalescence, that close attention be paid to the alleviation of microcirculatory
disturbance at the early stage of paraplegia.
