“自觉地求表现”与“自觉地求实现”──评唐君毅对中西文化精神的比较和照察

“Seeking Displaying Oneself Consciously”and “Pursuing Realization Consciously” On the survey and comparison between the Chinese cultural spirit and the Western cultural spirit by Tang Jun yi

当代港台儒家的代表人物唐君毅在对中西文化的比较研究中 ,揭示了西方文化的根本精神是“自觉地求表现”的精神 ,由此去说明西方文化成就的主要是客观的人文世界。中国文化的根本精神则是“自觉地求实现”的精神 ,因而成就的主要是道德人格。这两种根本精神既有其价值所在 ,但又有偏颇 ,因而中西文化的会通就成为文化发展的正确途径。

In his studies on the comparison between the Chinese culture and the Western's,Tang Junyi,the contemporary representative figure of the confucianists in Hong Kong and Taiwan,has revealed that the basic spirit of the Western culture is the spirit of “seeking displaying oneself consciously”,this shows that the principal attainment of the Western culture is the formation of the objective world of the humanities;while the fundmental spirit of the Chinese culture is that of “pursuing realization consciously”,which leads to the outstanding accomplishment of the Chinese moral quality.Both the spirits have their values,but also with the defects of their own.Therefore,the combination of the two cultures has become the right way for the development of the cultures.
